Brake Dust Shields

Your disc brakes must be protected from splash and debris to prevent damage and for effective operation, and your vehicle must be shielded from the corrosive effects of brake dust. We have the replacement and accessory dust shields to protect your disc brakes and your wheels and undercarriage, plus replacement brake backing plates to ensure smooth, quiet braking performance on drum brake vehicles.

Brake dust not only mars the appearance of stylish alloy and chrome wheels, turning their bright shine into dingy black, but if not removed regularly it can etch the finish and cause permanent damage. Our wheel dust shields will block unsightly brake dust, and conceal rusty brake parts. These sturdy aluminum shields are easy to install and will fit many rear wheel drive cars and trucks. They come in black, but can be painted to match your vehicle.

The original brake dust shields that mount behind your disc brake rotors are made of sheet metal and prone to corrosion and rust through. In extreme cases they can completely rot away, leaving your brakes exposed to road salt and debris that could cause them to corrode and bind, negatively affecting braking performance and your driving safety. Plus your suspension parts can be subjected to corrosive brake dust. Our direct replacement dust shields will restore the protection your brakes need for sure stopping power and prevent the spread of brake dust. They’re corrosion resistant and come with all necessary hardware.

On most applications, the dust shield can be easily unbolted from the knuckle once the brake rotor and hub are removed. However, on other vehicles, the entire axle shaft must be removed to install a replacement dust shield. To save time and labor costs, we carry two-piece “split” dust shields that can be installed without the need to remove the axle shaft. Just cut away the original dust shield; it’s often in such bad shape that this is easily accomplished. Like our traditional one-piece shields, the two-piece shields are made of corrosion resistant material and come with hardware, where applicable.

Because the wheel cylinders, brake shoes, and parking brake linkage mount to the drum brake backing plates, they are generally made of thicker metal and do not rust through easily. However, they can become bent and the shoe support pads on the backing plate can become grooved. A bent backing plate will not properly support the shoes, and worn support pads can cause the shoes to bind. Our backing plates are made to OE specs for precise fit and function. They’ll provide proper support for smooth braking action. We also have a selection of dust hole covers to keep dirt and moisture out of the drum brake assembly.
