Toyota has revised its Corolla lineup for 2023. The previously base L trim level has been discontinued, giving way to the LE as an entry point. The new SE and XLE trims have joined the Hybrid model range. No longer is the Corolla an FWD-only model – for 2023, AWD is an available option on the Hybrid SE and LE, provided by an extra electric motor that drives the rear axle. The previously standard 1.8-liter 139-hp I4 got the axe, so the entire gas model lineup is now propelled by a 2.0-liter I4 that makes 169 hp and 151 lb-ft of torque. The 6-speed manual gearbox option is no longer available. The engine’s power is now routed exclusively through a CVT, which has been improved for better response. The sport-tuned Apex Edition has been dropped: enthusiasts who crave racy styling and performance can now get their hands on an all-new GR Corolla hot hatch.
