There are two engine options for the 2022 Corolla sedan. L, LE, and XLE models are powered by a 1.8-liter 139-hp 4-cylinder paired with a CVT. Bumping up to the SE or XSE brings a larger 2.0-liter I4 with 169 hp, routed by either a 6-speed manual or a CVT. This is the only engine option available for the Corolla Hatchback. A hybrid setup can be had exclusively on the sedan-bodied Corolla and uses the 1.8-liter engine and a pair of electric motors. The system pushes out 121 horsepower and allows for an incredible 53 mpg.
