Wheel Center Caps

The first center caps were dust covers that kept dirt and moisture out of the wheel bearings. While these are still used on many vehicles, the center caps that we’re most familiar with today are the decorative caps mounted at the center of many steel and alloy wheels. These caps range from small button type caps that snap into a center hole in the wheel, to larger caps that cover and protect the wheel studs, lug nuts, and on many vehicles those bearing dust covers. There are almost as many shapes and styles of center caps as there are cars on the road, but you’ll find them all right here.

Center caps can be made from plastic, aluminum or steel; be plated, polished or painted; and snap in place or be retained with fasteners. Many caps feature the logo of the vehicle manufacturer, model, or trim level. Center caps live in a harsh environment, exposed to curbs, debris, heat, the elements, and road salt. Curbs and debris can cause physical damage and even cause a cap to loosen and fly off. The other factors can cause gradual physical deterioration, evidenced by pitting, corrosion, discoloration, fading paint, and scratched and tattered emblems. Worn, damaged or missing center caps result in disfigured wheels and an overall decline in vehicle appearance; and, depending on the wheel’s configuration, on some vehicles you’ll also have hubs, wheel studs and lug nuts that are exposed to rust and corrosion. But there’s no need to have your late model car or truck start looking like an old beater or risk vehicle damage when our quality replacement center caps are just a phone call away.

Our factory replacement center caps are made to OE specifications so they’ll fit perfectly and be indistinguishable from those installed by the manufacturer when your vehicle was new, and they’re available to you at much less than you’d spend at the dealer. Center caps were an integral feature on many classic and muscle cars of the past when they were combined with styled steel wheels and trim rings to create “rally wheels”. Another type of classic center cap were the so-called “dog dish” hub caps that only covered the lug nuts and bearing dust covers on regular steel wheels. Originally found on economy models because they were less expensive than full wheel covers, they were also factory fitted to no-frills muscle cars and became a popular look for custom cars and hot rods.

Unfortunately these caps and trim rings ceased to be available from dealers many years ago. But that doesn’t mean you have to scour junk yards and swap meets in a vain attempt to find good used pieces.
