Introduced in 1984, the Volvo 740 model was a mid-size luxury car intended to widen the 700 Series; it was a slightly less luxurious version in the lineup marketed since 1982. The body shape embodied a coeval taste in car designing, featuring straight lines and angular corners. The interior was roomy and comfortable enough, with large windows providing outstanding visibility. The model was offered as a 4-door sedan and 5-door station wagon, which featured impressive safety, traditionally for most Volvos. The production went on up to 1993 when the auto was eventually supplanted with the 940 Series.
