Super Lube® is a patented, multi-purpose synthetic lubricant, containing Syncolon® (PTFE) particles held in suspension. Super Lube® lasts longer and outperforms conventional petroleum-based greases and oils. It comes in Grease, Oil, Penetrant, Aerosol and Specialty forms.
Prounounced: SIN-coh-luhn
Syncolon® is our branded Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE). Super Lube® is enhanced with Syncolon® (PTFE), which is one of the most slippery materials known to science today.
All surfaces have microscopic irregularities, which create friction when rubbed against each other. The introduction of Syncolon® into these irregularities smoothes out the surfaces and offers a long-term solid lubricating compound which enhances the base oil, reducing the wear and sticking that friction causes.
The micron-sized particles of Syncolon® in Super Lube® are carried to these surface irregularities by the base lubricant and are ironed into place by the action of the two moving surfaces. A proprietary process keeps the Syncolon® particles dispersed in the base lubricant assuring a continual replenishment of Syncolon® to the surface irregularities.
Super Lube® Grease and Oils are exceptionally pure lubricants because they are synthetic. This gives Super Lube® very stable and predictable chemical properties. Petroleum-based machine and gear oils are made from refined crude oil and contain impurities, which cannot be removed. These impurities interfere with film strength and wear protection. They also form deposits at high temperatures and solidify at low temperatures. The synthetic properties of Super Lube® Multi-Purpose Greases and Oils provide predictable viscosity and reliable film strength to reduce wear between moving parts. The addition of Syncolon® (PTFE) adds additional protection in the form of a long lasting solid lubricant.
Aerosols such as WD-40 sprays do not have anti-friction properties. Squeaks are only temporarily stopped because the spray wets the surface and then quickly evaporates. These sprays are good for releasing frozen nuts and bolts, but not for lubricating. Super Lube® Multi-Purpose Synthetic Lubricant Aerosol is a fully rated bearing grease, thinned temporarily with a solvent carrier that cleans and penetrates, completely evaporates, and leaves behind a coating of grease that provides long lasting lubrication and corrosion protection. Super Lube® in the aerosol form is an excellent chain and open gear lubricant. It will also release frozen nuts and bolts.
Airborne silicone particles from silicone aerosol lubricants will leave deposits of silicone on shop surfaces. Because this can interfere with shop painting operations, some plants will not allow the use of silicone lubricants. Super Lube® Multi-Purpose Synthetic Lubricant Aerosol contains no silicone. In addition, it will not wash away as readily as silicone spray lubricants.
The best lubrication takes place when a part can actually be bathed in the lubricant. In these applications, Super Lube® Oils should be used depending upon the viscosity requirements. Super Lube® Greases should be used in applications that do not allow the parts to be bathed in oil. Super Lube® Aerosol formulation is ideal for open gears, chains and sprockets.
Viscosity, or the thickness of the oil, is important because it determines the lubricant's film strength and efficiency in preventing friction between moving parts. Thick oil has a high viscosity, and thin oil has a low viscosity. If oil is too thick for the operating conditions, the machine must work harder, thus generating heat and using more energy. If a lubricant is too thin, the film may not be thick enough to prevent friction.
Super Lube®, because it is synthetic, delivers minimum viscosity variation with temperature change. Unlike petroleum based oils, different weight oils are not needed to allow for temperature induced viscosity changes. The right viscosity is used from the start so the machine runs efficiently.
In general, thick oils are best for slow operating speeds and thin oils for high-speed applications. Super Lube® is a thixotropic material. This means it will thin at the point of shear as operating speeds increase in order to maintain the most effective and efficient film thickness and then return to its original viscosity as the operating speeds are reduced.
Super Lube® is a non-hazardous, food grade lubricant that is environmentally friendly and safe to use. Some products contain “Warnings” pertaining to the packaging of the product; these are required in order to meet universal government standards. Common sense application procedures should be followed to reduce the likelihood of exposure. Refer to the product Safety Data Sheet for more details.
There is no silicone in Super Lube® Multi-Purpose Synthetic Grease with Syncolon® (PTFE), Super Lube® Multi-Purpose Synthetic Oils, Super Lube® Synthetic Gear Oils, and many other Super Lube® products.
It is safe for use in paint spraying and finishing operations.
Note: Some Super Lube® products do contain silicone, and is reflected in the product name.
Yes, Super Lube® Silicone Dielectric Grease and Super Lube® Silicone Lubricating Grease with Syncolon® (PTFE) provide a non-curing moisture barrier for valve sealing and lubricating. These can be used on valves in swimming pools and other applications where there is contact with chlorine water, and it can be used in potable water applications.
Super Lube® O-Ring Silicone Grease is an excellent lubricant that prevents wear between metal, plastic, and rubber parts. See Compatibility Chart for details.
Yes, Super Lube® Greases and Oils have good electrical insulating properties and will protect electrical and electronic equipment.
