The history of Saturn began in January 1985 when the corporation was registered as the subsidiary of the world-famous General Motors company. But in spite of existence of such a reliable parent firm, Saturn turned out to become a rather self-reliant corporation – it had its own retailer network and assembly plant which was located in Spring Hill (Tennessee). Saturn promoted itself as a “different kind of car company” offering unique models which were different from those ones produced by General Motors. During Saturn’s presence on the market its engineers created a variety of vehicles which could meet any need and taste: compact sedans, station wagons, coupes, quad coupes, sedans of the middle size, roadsters, minivans, compact and full-size crossovers, compact hatchbacks and electric vehicles. The corporation also gained plenty of awards. For instance, the 2007 Saturn Aura won the title of the North American Car of the Year. In October 2009, the brand’s production was discontinued. One year later, in October 2010, General Motors decided to phase out the Saturn brand.
