Your engine design may undergo plenty of iterations, but there is one thing, without which none of them will make sense – a performance engine management system. You may say that your vehicle is already equipped with an ECU from the factory, so there is no reason to install a quite expensive performance unit. But in fact, there are a lot of them. The major reason is that your factory engine control unit does not allow your motor to perform at its full potential, which is done to protect your engine from excessive load and, therefore, prolong its service life.

When you’re on the track, you want to get the most out of your engine. This is when a racing engine management system comes into play. Just like an OEM unit it manages every aspect of your engine operation, including its ignition, timing, fuel delivery, etc, but it does this in a more effective way to unlock the full power of the motor. It eliminates all restrictions on engine performance, maximizing its power output. In addition, many modern-day racing engine management systems make it possible to change engine settings on the go to adapt to specific road or weather conditions.

The performance of an engine management system itself is also very important for efficient operation of the motor. The majority of stock engine control units are equipped with either 16-bit or 32-bit microprocessors with moderate performance characteristics. Unlike them, racing engine management systems come with high-performance microprocessors that process data they receive from various sensors much faster, which allows such units to immediately adjust engine settings to keep the motor operating at its peak efficiency over the whole RPM range. High-performance engine management systems also provide a wider range of functions, giving the user more freedom to adjust engine settings to fit his or her driving style.
