Established in 1928 as a subsidiary brand of Chrysler, Plymouth was targeted at a low-price market, competing with Ford and Chevrolet. The first model by Plymouth ever, the Plymouth Model Q, set the guidelines for the future policy of the new brand: inexpensive and reliable, the model brought Plymouth the reputation of a company producing affordable yet quality vehicles. Plymouth helped Chrysler to survive during the Great Depression. In the 1960s and 70s, the world saw the birth of legendary models such as the Barracuda, Road Runner, and Super Bird. With the fuel crisis of the mid-1970s, the Plymouth started a slow but inexorable decline, which even successful models such as the Voyager or the outstanding Prowler couldn’t stop. In June 2001, the glorious brand was eventually discontinued.
