Rear Differential Pinion Shim Kit by Omix-ADA®. Direct Fit. Ring and pinion gear sets must be installed according to specification, or gear whine, or even gear failure, could result. This kit includes all the shims needed to make sure pinion depth, bearing preload and ring and pinion backlash can be properly adjusted.
Material: Steel |
During installation, the ring and pinion gears must be set up to mesh properly, to ensure quiet operation and long life. Shims are used to set the pinion depth, which is how far the pinion gear projects into the differential case; the bearing preload, which ensures proper roller and race contact; and the ring and pinion backlash, the clearance between the mating teeth of each gear. Once all dimensions are set to specification, the gear mesh pattern is checked with marking compound to make sure the pinion gear teeth contact the ring gear teeth in the center of the drive side of the gear teeth.
This kit includes enough pinion and differential side gear shims to make sure the proper combination of shims necessary for specifications can be installed.
