The Oldsmobile Calais was introduced in 1984 as an attempt to compete with the Pontiac Grand Am and the Buick Skylark. The Calais received the same N-body platform the other two were based on. In 1988, the Calais was renamed into the Cutlass Calais; there was a special high-performance version of this car – the limited-edition Calais GMO equipped with a powerful Quad 4 engine mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. The Oldsmobile Calais was available in two body types – a coupe and sedan equipped with either a 2.5L flat-four or 3.0L V6 on choice.
