The Jeep J-Series is the series of 2-door pickup trucks produced for over 15 years, from 1972 to 1988. The model was previously known as the Gladiator (1962 -1971), being renamed for 1972. Apart from the new badge, the truck also received a new motor – a 4.2 L I6 unit capable of producing 112 hp. Another engine, a 5.9 L AMC V8 rated at 175 hp was available as well; a later version of this motor could deliver 195 hp. For 1974 model, nameplates were simplified (the J-10 and J-20 instead of the J-2000 and J-4000), the truck also received larger brakes and its turning radius was reduced. The Jeep J-Series was succeeded by the Comanche.
