Willys-Overland Motors has introduced the Jeepster after the Second World War. The company was trying to create a vehicle that could bridge the gap between passenger cars and trucks. The original Jeepster was produced from 1948 to 1950. Later, Kaiser bought Willys-Overland Motors in the mid 1950s and released the new Commando Jeepster in 1966, which was proven to be more successful than the original model. It was eventually offered in three body types, including a pickup, cabriolet, and station wagon. The Jeepster remained in production even after the acquisition of Kaiser by American Motors Corporation (AMC) in 1970, although it has shortened its name to Commando from 1972 to 1973, when the name was changed to Cherokee.
