Engine Oil Additives

All premium Motor Oils come with additive packages. However, there are circumstances where you may want to supplement the additive package or extend engine protection. There are also engine conditions that standard additive packages aren’t designed for, like excessive sludge, noise, and engine smoke. Regardless of the engine problems you’re trying to prevent or repair, we have the additives, supplements, and treatments for the job.

You may realize the importance of regular maintenance, but previous owners of your vehicle may not have been so attentive. If you come into possession of a car that hasn’t had many oil changes, you can get ownership started off on the right foot with an engine flush. The Motor Flush we carry dissolves gum, varnish and sludge so oil can circulate freely, plus it frees sticking valves and rings, to quiet engine noise and restore performance.

ZDDP (ZincDialkylDithioPhosphate), an important anti-wear additive, has been reduced in many motor oils to meet government emissions regulations. While not as important to newer engines with roller camshafts, this additive creates a thin film on metal parts, which is critical to prevent camshaft lobe damage on older flat-tappet camshafts, especially on performance engines with stiff valve springs. We have the Zinc Additive that will restore the proper ZDDP levels in modern motor oil, so owners of classics, muscle cars and other older vehicles can enjoy their cars without fear of expensive engine damage.

The break-in period is another instance when even the best regular motor oil doesn’t have the necessary additive package to prevent engine damage. When new parts are bedding in, they need additional protection in the form of even higher levels of ZDDP and other extreme pressure additives to prevent premature wear, as well as reduced levels of detergents that could wash these critical additives away. We have dedicated break-in oils as well as break-in additives that will ensure your freshly built engine gets started off right.

Whether it’s from abuse or lack of regular maintenance, some engines become damaged, and an oil change with ordinary motor oil alone won’t do anything to provide a cure. For these engines you need additives that are specially formulated to target specific problems.
