Spotlight: Ferrada FTR9 Off-Road Wheels

The off-road version of the popular FR9s, these wheels bring Ferrada’s recognizable concave design from the streets to the trails.

Ferrada Wheels

The Short Version: Ferrada just released the FTR9, a new line of off-road wheels. Based on the FR9 road wheels, the FTR9s have a concave face and a slew of finish options. They’re available in 20- and 22-inch diameters with 6x135 and 6x139.7 bolt patterns. These wheels are on sale now with prices starting at $600 each.

Ferrada is known for making wheels for high-performance vehicles, but the brand recently expanded its horizon and headed off the beaten path with a set of off-road wheels. Based on the popular FR9, the new FTR9s look almost identical, with a deep concave face and the same split-spoke design. Using Ferrada’s Forge8 manufacturing process, these forged aluminum wheels are lighter and stronger than their cast counterparts, helping them become a viable option for off-road enthusiasts.

The FTR9 is available in 20- or 22-inch diameters, with widths ranging from 9.5 to 12 inches. They come in 6x135 and 6x139.7 bolt patterns and have offsets ranging from -44 to +18 mm. These are the two most common bolt patterns used on late-model light-duty trucks, including many models from Cadillac, Chevrolet, Ford, GMC, Hummer, and more. Finish options include machine black, machine cobre (copper), noir black, machine silver, and obsidian black, making it easy to find one that fits your truck and style.

The elephant in the room here for off-road enthusiasts is the large diameters of these wheels, with most ORVs using wheels in the 15- to 17-inch range. You rarely see 20- or 22-inch off-road wheels that people actually take off-roading, but Ferrada put its money where its mouth is and slapped a set of FTR9s on a 2024 Chevrolet Bison ZR2 for testing.

If the FTR9s don’t do it for you, the brand also just released its new FTR11, the off-road version of the FR11s. These wheels have a concave look similar to the FTR9s but with a distinctive multi-spoke design. If you like what you’re seeing from Ferrada, CARiD has many of the other brand’s wheel options available outside of the FTR9 and FTR11.

My favorite is the FT3 Brushed Cobre, which run $585 each. They’re a bold wheel choice that makes a statement, and they seem right at home on something like a Lamborghini or GTR, so they might not look right on a Corolla, but hey, who am I to judge?
