The Short Version: Cooper Tires just announced the release of its new Discoverer Stronghold All-Terrain tire, the newest addition to the successful Discoverer line. The Stronghold AT uses sipes, grooves, and a specialized rubber compound to cut through dirt, mud, gravel, snow, and rain, providing all-weather, all-terrain use. Designed for heavy-duty trucks and off-roading, these tires are available in 16- through 20-inch sizes and come with a 60,000-mile warranty.

Having the right tire for hauling heavy loads or going off-roading is almost as important as having the right vehicle. The Cooper Discoverer family has been one of the most popular truck tires for these activities for decades, and the brand just announced the Stronghold All-Terrain tire as the latest addition to the lineup.

As someone who used to sell and install tires for a living, the Discoverer A/T3 is the only all-terrain tire I’ve ever recommended over the BFGoodrich K02, and it likely competes with the recently released K03. And it looks like the new Stronghold AT has improved on the same underlying tech and performance that made previous Discoverers solid options, and we expect nothing less from the latest model.

To help with traction, the Stronghold AT uses a combination of narrow grooves for stability and wide grooves designed to evacuate dirt, mud, and gravel. The shoulders are beefed up with textured edges and scooped tread blocks with 3D sipe technology that momentarily locks the sipes’ edges together for extra stability to help bite into snow and mud. All of this helped the tire earn a Three-Peak Mountain Snowflake Designation, recognition of its proven ability to perform well under extreme winter weather conditions.

An innovative rubber compound used in the Stronghold AT helps to repel water and provide traction on wet roads, and the special tread pattern and lug design prevent cracking, tearing, and wearing down of the tread blocks. This durable compound helps the Stronghold ATs last longer, and they’re backed by a 60,000-mile warranty, solid for tires expected to be put to work.

Designed with heavy-duty trucks in mind that go off-road while hauling big loads, the Stronghold AT is recommended for HD trucks from Chevrolet, Ford, GMC, Jeep, and Ram, along with the Ram ProMaster 3500. The latter makes them suitable for the new Noovo Pop campervan built on the ProMaster chassis, and the long-lasting tread provides a solid option for living on the road.

The Cooper Discoverer Stronghold AT tires are available in 28 sizes, including 16-, 17-, 18-, and 20-inch diameters. Sizes range from 225/75R16 on the small end to 35x12.50R20 at the biggest. So if you’re looking for a set of off-road tires or you need to slap some new rubber on your heavy-duty work truck, the Stronghold ATs are worth checking out.
