The Short Version: CARiD Drive’s new podcast, called Project [S]Cars, launches today with an episode on Kyle Hyatt’s BMW X5 manual, Brett T. Evans’ BMW Z4, and Seyth Miersma’s next project car – help us pick! We also talk our current press cars, the BMW i4 EV and Toyota GR Corolla hot hatch.

CARiD Drive launched its first podcast today, called “Project [S]Cars,” wherein our editors and writers talk about their latest experiences under the hood and behind the wheel. The weekly podcast kicked off with an episode hosted by CARiD Editor-in-Chief Seyth Miersma, with Managing Editor Brett T. Evans and Contributing Editor Kyle Hyatt joining in.

The first segment introduced listeners to our staff’s fleet of project cars, including Hyatt’s 2001 BMW X5 3.0i manual and 2003 Porsche 911 Carrera 2 and Evans’ 2006 BMW Z4 3.0si roadster. Hyatt is catching up on some deferred servicing for the X5 and tidying up a few details on the 996, while Evans needs to do some paint correction and detailing on the Z4 following three years of maintenance baselining.

Sadly, CARiD’s resident supercar restorer, Social Media Editor Gabrielle Schmauderer, wasn’t on hand to shame all of us with her twin-turbocharged Lamborghini Gallardo build, but she should be on next week. Commenters should ask her about the rooster she introduced her Lotus Evora to a few weeks back.

Then, the hosts discussed their current press vehicles, which will eventually show up on CARiD Drive’s review page. Evans is behind the wheel of a base-powertrain BMW i4 eDrive35 this week and enjoying its smooth, electric thrust and impressive poise around town, while Miersma is having his hair blown back by the 300-horsepower Toyota GR Corolla and its 26.2 psi of turbo boost.

Finally, Miersma cops to selling his old personal vehicle, a first-generation Mercedes-Benz CLS550. With a pocketful of cash, he’s ready to get into his next dad car, nominating a Mk6 Volkswagen Golf R for the task. Evans takes a significantly different tack, adding the rare-for-a-reason 1996 Oldsmobile LSS to the list, complete with the nearly bulletproof Buick 3800 supercharged V6. Hyatt, ever the rationalist, splits the difference with a 2003 Jaguar XJR, resplendent with acres of leather, forests of wood, and 370 Roots-blown horses.
