The Short Version: In the third episode of the CARiD Drive podcast “Project [S]Cars,” we discuss Gabrielle Schmauderer’s minty-fresh Lotus Elise restoration and Seyth Miersma’s continuing search for a rad dad wagon – with a Subaru Impreza hatch currently leading the charge. Kyle Hyatt’s steady improvements to his Porsche 996 make it a brilliant daily, and Brett T. Evans has a bizarre street encounter with a bright pink C5 Corvette that’s for sale at a very tempting price.

The third episode of the CARiD Drive podcast “Project [S]Cars” streamed live at 1:00 p.m. Eastern today, featuring hosts Seyth Miersma, Brett T. Evans, Gabrielle Schmauderer, and Kyle Hyatt. From a 1972 Chevrolet Nova and bright pink Barbie Corvette to a late-model Impreza WRX hatch and freshly restored Lotus Elise, the team covers a lot of ground pretty quickly.

In Gabrielle’s first appearance on the podcast, she told us some pretty harrowing stuff about that aforementioned Lotus. Before it became the Porsche-spec Mint Green beauty seen above, she had to contend with some decidedly funky repairs from the previous owner, including a poorly repaired fiberglass front clip using cardboard as the base. Gab’s lack of experience with fiberglass didn’t stop her from undertaking the restoration herself, learning how to refinish the front clip by way of YouTube videos and cheap tools.

Seyth’s search for a new car continues, currently narrowed on the third-generation Subaru Impreza WRX hatchback. Meanwhile, Kye’s making continuous, steady improvements to his 996.2-generation Porsche 911 Carrera, making it a better daily driver with every passing moment. And Brett has a chance encounter with the owner of a Chevrolet Corvette C5 that featured in the Charli XCX song “Speed Drive,” wrapped a Pepto Bismol–esque shade of pink that’s appropriate for the song’s Barbie connections. It’s for sale at a mighty tempting price.

Finally, Kyle compiles a list of recommendations for a podcast viewer who’s having a hard time selling her 1972 Chevrolet Nova. Good photos and an accurate description are key, so the segment is sound advice for anyone trying to unload their car for a good, fair price.

I’ve been writing about cars for more than a decade and thinking about cars for more than three decades. After freelancing in college as a copy editor for Petrolicious, I began working full-time for Truck Trend magazine in 2014 writing new-vehicle news and reviews, as well as contributing to its sister titles Diesel Power and 8-Lug, where I learned about everything from flat-fender Willys Jeeps to Cummins-powered 1,500-horsepower Rams. I moved to Motor1 in 2020 – driving the new Lamborghini Revuelto around Autodromo Vallelunga will forever be a career highlight – before leaving in 2024 to join CARiD as managing editor.
