The Short Version: This 2022 Ford Bronco was modified by Apocalypse Manufacturing as part of the brand’s Dark Horse Package program, and it sold for $84,000 on Cars & Bids. Looking like something destined for SEMA, this Bronco comes with a six-wheel-drive drivetrain, full-body Kevlar coating, a 400-horsepower EcoBoost engine, and more.

During my weekly Monday morning perusal of Cars & Bids to see what kind of auctions ended over the weekend and what was for sale this week, I came across something I’d never seen before: a six-wheel 2022 Ford Bronco. The bid was already at nearly $80,000 this morning with five hours left on the auction, and it ended up selling for a whopping $84,000. For comparison, a base model 2024 Bronco Big Bend starts at $39,630, and a new Outer Banks trim – which is what this started life as – costs $47,190. That said, this $84,000 Bronco is still cheaper than a new Raptor, which starts at $90,035.

While the full-body Kevlar coating gives it a matte black look that’s sure to turn heads on its own, the first thing I’m sure 99% of people who see this truck will notice is the extra set of wheels in the back. That’s right, Apocalypse Manufacturing, a Florida-based shop known for some insane truck builds, converted this 2022 Bronco Outer Banks into a six-wheel-drive behemoth with its Dark Horse Package.

The seller on Cars & Bids mentioned some “extensive modifications, " which might be the understatement of the summer. From its birth as a simple sixth-generation Bronco, this Dark Horse 6x6 comes with some custom bodywork and fabrication to extend the truck by 36 inches with a functional bed, a power tandem axle to add two more wheels, a four-inch lift kit to clear everything, seven 20-inch Fuel Off-Road SFJ wheels (including the spare), some 37-inch tires, and more.

Under the hood, Apocalypse left the original 2.7-liter turbocharged V6 EcoBoost engine, but upped the output to 400 horsepower with a custom tune, a full exhaust, and some bigger fuel injectors. In the cabin, occupants were left with all the modern tech and comfort of a new Bronco, including an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, dual-zone climate control, and various G.O.A.T driving modes. Custom leather with diamond stitching makes this truck look much more high-end than a basic Bronco, and it probably should for $84,000.

Just imagine pulling up to Ford’s Bronco Off-Roadeo driving school in this thing and ripping through some trails. If I come up with an extra $84,000, I might have to keep my eye out for the next one to hit the auction block.

I have been obsessed with all things automotive since I was a kid, and this passion led me to pursue a degree in mechanical engineering. While obtaining my master’s degree in ME from Miami University, I worked as a technician at a local shop for seven years while building my own drag car, learning the ins and outs of vehicle performance, diagnostics, and repair.
