Some of us are into modifying our older project cars and some are into restoring them to how they were in their prime. My 2003 911 project, for example, is more of the former, while this series from the excellent and deeply Scottish and so nigh unintelligible RRC Restorations is the latter. While the channel typically does a lot of motorcycles, this particular restoration focuses on a Japanese-market Honda CRX that was imported into Scotland in the 90s and has since begun to return to the earth.
Of course, while this little Honda looks like it would crumble to dust if confronted with a stiff crossbreeze (at least by my West coast standards), it’s actually nowhere near as bad as it seems. The unnamed lad from RRC is a wizard with metalwork and paint, especially considering he’s a one-man operation using relatively humble tools (read: not a massive fully equipped workshop), so with just four episodes in the can, he’s done with bodywork and just about ready for exterior paint.
While this kind of restoration seems overwhelming (at least to me), it’s also pretty inspirational. Ultimately, while this work requires skill and the right tools, it’s not impossible for most of us to learn, especially on cars where the overall value is low and replacement panels are available. Bodywork has always scared the hell out of me, but with channels and builds like this, some of that fear is abating.
While this build series is a work in progress, RRC is fairly good about updating regularly so I suspect we won’t be waiting eons for more videos. In the meantime, you should check out his restoration of a GC8 Impreza and like a zillion motorcycles. It’s a perfect way to spend a Saturday afternoon.
