Door Moldings

Door moldings add both style and protection to the side doors on cars and trucks. There are several types of moldings designed for different areas of the door and for protection against specific kinds of damage. On our digital shelves you’ll find both factory type moldings to replace damaged original equipment trim, and custom moldings in stainless steel and ABS plastic, to protect your vehicle and enhance its appearance.

The most common door molding is the side molding that is positioned roughly at the middle of the door and the widest part of the vehicle. This molding may be made of plastic, polished stainless steel, or chrome plated, and may be used alone or be part of a body side molding effect that is carried into the fenders. These moldings protect the underlying sheet metal from dings and dents, accent body lines, and provide visual interest to the body design.

As the name implies, door edge moldings, also known as door edge guards, install along the edge of the door and are meant to prevent damage if the door inadvertently strikes another car or obstacle when it’s opened. Belt moldings, also called window moldings or reveal moldings, are installed at the top of the main body of the door at the base of the window opening for decorative purposes. On some cars and trucks the rocker panel moldings are carried over into the lower part of the door, while other vehicles may have standalone lower door moldings that enhance appearance and protect the body from stones and debris.

After many years on the road the door moldings on your vehicle can become weathered, dull, dinged and dented. Side moldings and edge guards can almost be considered sacrificial parts, because they take the impact from car doors and shopping carts instead of the body.
