A mid-size sedan, the Dodge Spirit was marketed between 1989 and 1995, featuring five- or six-seating configuration. This front-wheel drive sedan was developed on the base of the AA platform by Chrysler. The Spirit became a real sales success, as during the first model year 60.000 units were sold. The powertrain of this Dodge consisted of a 2.5 L naturally aspirated inline-four, or a 2.2 L / 2.5 L turbocharged inline-four engine mated to a three-, four- or five-speed gearbox. The performance-oriented trim level of the Spirit featured a 3.0 L V6 engine. In 1995, the Spirit was discontinued by Dodge in favor of the cab-forward Stratus model.
