Dodge Durango Cylinder Heads

The Dodge Durango is known for its versatility and power. While many of its rivals come with a standard inline-four and an optional V6, this SUV offers a standard V6 and an optional V8. The latest models are even more performance-oriented and available with an optional Hemi 5.7L, 6.4L, or SRT Hellcat 6.2L V8 motor. Unlike the standard Pentastar V6 having a DOHC configuration with two camshafts in each cylinder head, all those Hemi models feature an OHV design, which means there is only one camshaft located in the engine block, quite close to the crank.

Each of these constructions has its own pros and cons, although some think pushrod OHV motors are somewhat outdated. For instance, they don't need a timing belt or long chain to drive several cams located quite far from the sump, like in an OHC powerplant. For this reason, their lubrication requirements are lower.
