The Dodge Charger was presented in 1964 as a show car based on the Polara. The production version of the model debuted for the 1966 model year. It was a mid-size car constructed on the B platform by Chrysler. The Charger shared some components with the Coronet. The automobile utilized a 5.2 L V8 connected to a 3-speed manual. More powerful engines were available optionally. The second generation was launched soon – for the 1968 model year. Both interior and exterior of the Charger were redesigned, however, the powertrain remained the same. That model featured an undivided grille, hidden headlights and rounded tail lights. The Charger based on the B-body platform was manufactured until 1978.
