The Chrysler 300 made its first public appearance as a concept car at the 2003 New York Auto Show. Intended to become a new Chrysler flagship, the 300 was a full-size sedan featuring a rather high equipment level and impressive performance. Designed as a spiritual successor to the Chrysler C-300 of the 1950s, the new car obtained the rear-wheel-drive LX platform (all-wheel drive was optional). While the North American 300 was officially available only as a 4-door sedan, the South American, European and Australian markets also offered a 5-door station wagon version. Instead, the U.S. and Canadian customers could buy the similar Dodge Magnum available exclusively in a 5-door station wagon body type. The 300 line underwent an upgrade for the 2011 model year.
