The Chevrolet LUV was a light pickup truck originally designed by the Japanese maker Isuzu and sold as “Faster”. The rebadged version for the American market was identical to the original one, substantially a conventional pickup truck featuring a ladder frame and a leaf-spring live-axle rear suspension. The LUV, acronym for “light utility vehicle”, went on sale on the U.S. market in 1972, soon proving a good seller, mainly due to outstanding fuel efficiency, a vital matter during the 1970s oil crisis. In 1980, the second generation Chevrolet LUV was unveiled and sold in the U.S. until 1982. The badge revived in 2002, when the all-new Isuzu D-Max pickup truck was imported in North America as the Chevrolet LUV D-Max and sold until 2005, when it was replaced by the Chevrolet Colorado.
