The earliest version of the Acura CL appeared on the market in 1997 – it was constructed as a mid-size two-door coupe. The selection of engines included three following options: a 2.2L F22B1 I4, 2.3L F23A1 I4 and 3.0L J30A1 V6. The engine of the CL was mated to a four-speed automatic or a five-speed manual gearbox. The second generation was presented to customers in 2001. This model was powered with a 3.2L SOHC VTEC J-Series V6 engine mated to a five-speed automatic transmission, while the CL of the 2003 model year offered a six-speed manual variant. The manufacture of this coupe was ceased after 2003.
