Racing rims are specifically designed to adhere to a range of specific qualities, which include durability, strength, and lower weight. They should be robust enough to be able to stand up to the stresses of competition, while making it all through the race undamaged. They should also withstand heavier rotational loads without experiencing any deflection. And their lighter-weight construction reduces unsprung mass for swifter acceleration, better handling, and improved suspension and braking system performance. The majority of rims used on the track are forged aluminum monoblock and multi-piece units. However, for certain particular types of racing, flow-formed and cast aluminum rims can be used, along with those made from steel.
