Shifnoid's air/CO2 shift activators are designed to attach to the shift mechanism of a vehicle to allow for fast mechanical shifting with the help of pressurized air. A typical CO2 system consists of a cylinder attached to the shift lever, a solenoid, bracket, airline, fittings, a bottle with pressurized air, RPM activated switch and shifter controller. When the driver wants to switch to a higher or lower gear, he or she pushes the button, which makes the controller activate the solenoid that opens the valve and allows the compressed air from the CO2 bottle to enter the shift cylinder and push the lever. Working in tandem with the RPM switch, the shift controller also cuts the ignition and/or fuel supply to the engine for an extremely short period of time, which eliminates the need of using the clutch.

Electric shift activators from Shifnoid are the next step in the design and evolution of hands-free shifters. Their principle of operation is similar to air/CO2 activators, however, no supply of pressurized air is required, because the system is all electrical. Since no CO2 bottle and pressure regulator are used, it gives the driver several additional benefits. An electric shift activator system needs less space for installation because you do not have to mount an air tank. Due to the same reason an all-electric activator rules out the possibility of air leaks, which gives you even more confidence on the track.
