PRO/RACE harmonic dampers are manufactured to the highest standards that in many cases far exceed SFI requirements. While the SFI test requires a damper to be spin tested at a speed of 12000 rpm for an hour, many PRO/RACE dampers are tested at 18000 rpm for the same period of time. In addition, the quality of each damper is constantly monitored at every manufacturing step to make sure it conforms to specified standards. The entire damper is polished and then treated with a clear protective coating which prevents corrosion and gives the part an attractive appearance.
The majority of stock dampers are made from cast iron, which is far from being the finest material for race and high-performance street applications. Cast iron stock dampers are not permitted for racing sanctioning bodies due to a high risk of failure in hard operating conditions. That’s why most PRO/RACE products are made from highly durable steel or top-quality carbon steel. Such harmonic dampers are a must-have for just about any belt driven supercharger application, since they are able to handle the additional torque loads on the damper hub and keyway which in nine out of ten cases are prone to damage when a stock damper is used.
