Citizen band (CB) radios have been used for personal communication since their first appearance in the 1940s. These days, they are not as widespread as several decades ago but still quite popular among American truckers. You can ask for help when something breaks down, get information about road accidents and traffic jams, or just speak to somebody during long interstate travels. Unlike conventional phones working in a duplex mode, a CB radio operates in a simplex mode: the one who’s speaking cannot listen at the same time.
