The name of the Oldsmobile Jetstar can be a little confusing since there were two quite similar model lines carrying this name. The first one was the Oldsmobile Jetstar I – a sporty, high-powered full-size car based on the B-body of the company’s 88 model. It was designed as a companion vehicle to the more expensive Starfire series: despite being somewhat less flashy than its big brother, it shared its sport-oriented design and performance provided by the 345 hp 394c.i. Starfire Rocket V8 engine, and also had some luxurious features, such as full wheel covers, carpeting, and a padded instrument panel. Another car bearing the Jetstar name was the Jetstar 88 – the Oldsmobile’s most affordable full-size model, often described as an A-body on the B-chassis. It was powered by a 330c.i. Rocket V8 engine and featured a two-speed Jetaway automatic transmission and smaller 9.5-inch diameter brake drums. Both models were heavily underrated, but still managed to find many loyal owners.
