In Western Star's model range, the 6900 Series is the highest capacity work truck, built for the toughest applications such as mining, logging, etc. This truck is offered in two configurations, XD (Extreme Duty) and TS (Twin Steer). The TS is designed for increased maneuverability and improved ride. Because the second steer axle is on the ground, the truck offers firm stability and optimal weight distribution, while ensuring wide turning and more positive steering. The Western Star 6900 XD is engineered to handle the heaviest loads of over 500,000-pound GCWs (as a tractor). Specified as a dump, it provides a simple and cost-effective solution for moving massive loads up to 80,000 pounds, offering reduced downtime and lower maintenance and operation costs.

When it comes to choosing an engine for heavy-duty applications, there's no place for compromise. For 6900 models, Western Star offers a number of engine options with the right horsepower and torque ratings to tackle the job. In the TS model, there is a strong 14L Detroit Series 60 Tier III designed especially for off-highway use, that delivers from 425 to 500 hp and is mated to an Eaton Fuller Manual transmission. The Western Star 6900 XD comes with a 14.8L Detroit DD15 TC that makes 455-505 hp and provides an extremely wide torque range (1550-1750 lb-ft). Extreme duty applications are equipped with a bigger 15.6L Detroit DD16, which gives up to 600 hp, enough to do the hard work at dump, mine sites, etc. Both XD engine options are combined with an Allison automatic transmission.
