The Lexus UX, the smallest crossover in the luxury automaker’s lineup, first broke cover at the 2018 Geneva Auto Show. The long-awaited “urban crossover,” as Lexus calls it, is intended to appeal to the modern urban explorer who needs luxury transportation with easy maneuverability to drive through congested city traffic. The extreme-looking concept of the UX was first shown at the Paris salon back in 2016. The production model has a less radical, toned down look, yet unconventional styling is its ace in the sleeve in tough competition against the BMW X1 and Mercedes GLA-Class. The UX’s edgy front end design is dominated by the prominent spindle grille with a block-shape mesh pattern. The sculpted bodywork features plenty of creases and flowing lines, complemented by flared wheel arches front and rear. The rear end look is accented by distinctive full-width tail lights.

The UX is the first vehicle by Lexus to be underpinned by the new GA-C (Global Architecture-Compact) platform that is already used by the Toyota C-HR. This foundation is claimed to give the Lexus UX the lowest center of gravity in its class, while allowing for increased rigidity. At launch, Lexus offered two variants of the UX crossover: the gasoline-fed UX 200 and hybrid UX250h. The former got a new 2.0-liter four-cylinder good for 168 hp, coupled with Lexus' first Direct Shift-CVT. The gasoline-electric powertrain includes the same engine and transmission plus a nickel metal-hydride battery and an extra electric motor on the rear axle to enable E-Four all-wheel drive. In total, the system produces 176 hp. The UX 250h comes with Lexus’ groundbreaking Predictive Efficient Drive tech that analyzes driving habits and monitors road and traffic conditions to achieve an optimal level of battery charge. The suspension setup of the Lexus UX includes front MacPherson struts and rear double wishbone arrangement for responsive drive and greater ride comfort. Both UX 200 and UX 250h can be had in an F Sport guise that, apart from an enhanced grille and bumper design and unique interior, offers a revised suspension. It features uprated springs and anti-sway bars and rear performance dampers that are available in an optional adaptive form.

Lexus UX accessories and parts of the interior create a human-centered environment. The designers at Lexus aimed to erase the boundary between the inside and outside, inspired by the Japanese concept of “ma” - blurring the areas between the exterior and interior of a house. The result is an outstanding field of vision and sense of the vehicle’s body dimensions. The instrument panel has a unique design that seems to extend and blend with the hood. Leather upholstery is quilted in a traditional Japanese technique. One of the available finishes mimic the grain of a Japanese “washi” paper.

Floor Mats were impeccable in all areas, trim, logo and plushness of carpet. Just drove my Jeep this AM with no shoes on and they were extremely comfortable to rest my feet on. This is my seconds pair of Mats from Lloyd and the Quality has not changed.
