The Infiniti Q45 first appeared in 1989 for the 1990 model year as a full-size luxury sedan. The Q45 is credited with assisting the automaker in establishing itself stateside as a worthy upscale marque, since the model competed with the likes of the Mercedes S-Class, Cadillac Fleetwood, and Jaguar XJ. At its launch, the Q45 was outfitted with a 4.5L VH45DE V8 good for approximately 280 horsepower and 292 pounds-per-foot of torque mated to a standard four-speed automatic transmission. For its first generation, the model showcased the following Infiniti Q45 parts: standard leather upholstery, power-adjustable front-passenger seats, one-touch power windows, digital climate control, and remote keyless entry. As for the model's dimensions, the Q45 measured in with a wheelbase of 113.2 inches (upped to 113.4 in 1992), a width of 71.9 inches, a height of 56.3 inches, (increased to 54 inches in 1992), and an overall length of 199.8 inches. Three trim levels (base, Q45t, and Q45a) were offered, with the latter two offering additional Infiniti Q45 accessories, such as rear stabilizer bar, rear spoiler, and BBS alloy wheels.

Second-generation versions of the Infiniti Q45 made their way into the showrooms for 1997. It was slightly smaller after being moved to the Nissan Cima platform. The engine was also changed to a 4.1L VH41DE V8 configuration good for 266 horsepower. Traction control became standard for this model year, as well. Come the year 2000, the Q45 Anniversary Edition was considered the highest trim level (though it was only offered for a brief period of time). The top trim level, aside from the 2000 Q45 Anniversary Edition, remained the Q45t, which was geared up with such Infiniti parts as a rear spoiler, special shock absorbers, and heated seats. There weren't too many changes made to the model over the next several years until the Q45 was given a full redesign heading to its third generation of production. For the second generation, the Q45 sported a wheelbase of 11.4 inches, a width of 71.7 inches, a height of 57.1 inches (56.9 inches for 2000), and an overall length of 199.1 inches (199.6 inches for 2000).

2000 welcomed in the arrival of the third generation Infiniti Q45. It was equipped with a new, bolder 4.5L VK45DE V8 engine good for 340 horsepower mated to a standard five-speed automatic transmission with overdrive. The exterior accessories were refreshed with a more aerodynamic shape as well as xenon HID headlights. Minor changes were made for 2003, but in 2005, the exterior was given more of an overhaul than it did at the outset of the third generation, as the entire front-end was restyled, featuring the following Infiniti Q45 parts: a new front-end grille, the addition of fog lights, new front/rear fascias, a new hood, an updated headlight configuration, new LED tail lights. Inside the Q45, wood and chrome accents were the main upgrades in décor. Standard features for the model included remote entry, rain-sensor windshield wipers, leather upholstery, a power sunroof, eight-way power front-seats, a premium Bose stereo system, rear-parking sensors, and voice-activated navigation.

An Infiniti original, the Q45 still makes news in more ways than one. From the time of its debut, the Q45 has made an impression thanks to the elegantly designed exterior that is still fashionable and seductive to this day. You take one look at this model and the first word that pops into your head is "class." There is no getting around it - this is a beautiful automobile. Not only is it pleasure to look at, but the Q45 has the performance and comfort to back it up. There have been others in Infiniti's rosters that have garnered more recent acclaim, but the Q45 is still one machine that demands respect.
