The fourth-generation Oldsmobile Cutlass was actually launched in 1973, and was based on a new 'Colonnade' platform. It was available as a four-door sedan, five-door station wagon and a two-door coupe. At launch, the engine range comprised solely of V8 motors, varying from a 4.3-liter engine, through 5.7- and 6.6-liter engines, and finally on to a 7.5-liter motor. All drove the rear wheels through either a three-speed column-mounted manual transmission, a four-speed floor-mounted shift, or a three-speed automatic. In 1975, a 3.8-liter V6 and 4.1-liter inline six-cylinder engine were added. In 1978, the fifth-generation car appeared, and was smaller than its predecessor. In addition to the sedan, station wagon and coupe bodystyles, it was available as a two-door fastback coupe and a four-door fastback sedan. It sold well. In 1982 the Cutlass model changed, with the name being used as a sub-brand on various different vehicles.
