The American carmaker Ford used the GT nameplate for three related sports cars. The first one was produced from 1964 to 1969, it was a high-performance endurance racing car. The 1960s Ford GT was a limited edition car – only 107 units were manufactured in total. In 2004 the brand launched a mid-engine sports car, whose design was inspired by the design of the above-mentioned racing car. The model employed a 5.4 L Supercharged Modular V8 power plant geared to a 6-speed manual transmission. The GT of the mid-2000s was quite popular – more than 4,000 units were produced in total. In 2015 Ford presented the second-generation GT which was completely redesigned. It utilizes a 3.5 L EcoBoost V6 twin-turbo motor connected to a 7-speed semi-automatic.
