The automotive industry offers different suspension types utilizing coil, leaf, or air springs, but there is one more kind whose specificity offers certain advantages for pickup trucks and SUVs: the torsion bar suspension. Its working principle is based on the ability of a metal rod to resist torsional loads, and this type was quite popular starting in the 1950s up to the mid-2000s. Even some sports cars made in the 1980s including the legendary Porsche 911 used torsion bars, at least, on the front axle.
Commonly, there are two longitudinal bars supporting an axle. Their ends have a special shape to resist torsion; one end is attached to a control arm, while another one is mounted on the chassis and inserted into an adjustable bracket (known as a key) that is installed in the crossmember. This key has special bolts that enable you to set the ride height of your Ford Expedition. Over time, the bars may get damaged, corrode, or just deteriorate because of metal fatigue. The bolts may also require replacement, but whatever situation you've faced, a nice assortment of Ford Expedition torsion bars and related parts is available in our online store.
