Sometimes, the relay is even confused with this solenoid utilizing a similar working principle. However, the main difference between them is that the solenoid acts not only as a switch but also as an actuator for the starter's motor. Meanwhile, the relay also has built-in movable contacts, and although they are specially treated and rather durable, their lifespan is not endless.
