Fiat intermittently used the Brava nameplate on its two mechanically unrelated models during 1978 - 2001. On the North American market, the Brava name was applied on the Fiat 131 Series 2 in the late 70s and early 80s. The model was renamed in order to depart it from the pre-facelifted Series 1 that was ambiguously accepted by U.S. motorists. The model was improved both mechanically and externally. It received the new twin-cam 16-valve I4 engine with significantly increased fuel efficiency, reduced emissions, and boosted power. Externally, the new model differed by quad round headlights, larger tail lights and new bumpers. The Brava was officially available on the U.S. market until 1981, when the Series 3 was launched.
