Enzo Ferrari informed the publicity about this model creation in September 1983. And one year later, at the 1984 Geneva Motor Show held in March, the world saw this legendary supercar for the first time. The production of the Ferrari GTO, officially named the Ferrari GTO 288, began the same year. Taking into account its power unit’s specs, design, and composite reinforced materials used while building the car, it was approved for group B rally, but never took part in it. The Ferrari GTO, a parent of all modern Ferrari supercars, used a 2.8L twin turbo DOHC V8 engine that cranked out 400 hp and had four valves per cylinder. The engine was mated to a reverse five-speed manual transmission. Also, this two-seat berlinetta was equipped with Weber-Marelli electronic ignition that had a single spark plug per cylinder. There were only 272 cars released and the production ceased in 1987.
