The Dodge Charger was unveiled back in 1964 as a concept car and the production version was launched for the 1966 model year. Originally, the car employed a 5.2 L V8 power plant directed through a 3-speed manual. A number of power units were offered optionally, they all featured a V8 configuration. The Charger belonged to the mid-size class and was available in a 2-door fastback body style only. The automobile shared the chassis as well as the front-end sheet metal with the Coronet. Nowadays, it is still in production, the current version is a full-size 4-door sedan. Besides, the car was also manufactured in the 1980s as a subcompact hatchback.
