The A100 is a lineup of American trucks and compact vans manufactured by Chrysler under the Dodge name. The A100 competed with Chevrolet’s Van, Ford’s Econoline, and Volkswagen’s Type 2. It was available as a van and pickup truck, both featuring a ‘forward control’ design. First introduced in the mid-sixties, the A100 was in production up to 1970. Customers could go with a 3-speed automatic/manual transmission. A100 vans themselves were rather short, but packaging kept them useful. According to the Standard Catalog of Trucks the driving position of the A100 was excellent, with “firm and form-fitting” seats. First A100 trucks were slant six powered, with a choice of 170 cu.in. producing around 101 hp or 225 cu.in. capable of 140 hp. In 1965, A100 pickups were equipped with the 273-cu.in. LA-series V8. 1970 was the final year for the Dodge A100; 1970 A-trucks gained an all-new, fully synchronized 3-speed manual transmission and a new 198-cu.in. slant six.

The A100 pickup truck was a more popular option and featured the design that was similar to the Ford Econoline Pickup. The A100 Series was also well-known for the 1965 drag-racing truck, the “Little Red Wagon.” A 3-speed manual/automatic transmission remained for many years. The A100 used bucket seats, with a Custom Sports Special featuring the 318 V8 engine, Dart GT seats, the Polara center console, full carpet, etc. Another interesting option was the Camper Wagon with a popup roof and a number of usual interior features common for a six-passenger camper. In 1968, Dodge introduced a long-lasting feature – Job-Mated interiors for tradespeople. This was also the first popular van to feature power steering.
