When Chevrolet unveiled its all-new SuperSport Roadster concept car at the 2000 Detroit Auto Show, both critics and public were positively surprised and in 2003, the Chevrolet SSR went in production. It was a two-passenger convertible truck, a radical new vehicle, combining the styling of a pickup from the 1950s with the performance of a modern rear-wheel drive sports car. The rounded muscular body shaping and bulging fenders gave the SSR a uniquely American appearance as well as a strong personality, also enhanced by the bold design of the cabin. Initially powered by a 5.3 liter V8 engine, the model received a more powerful 6.0 liter V8 in 2005, providing 390 HP. Although the Chevrolet SSR was a unique and innovative vehicle, its sales didn't meet the expectations, so the model was discontinued in 2006.
