The first generation of the Buick Skyhawk was presented to the world in 1974 (for the 1975 model year). This model was a subcompact two-door hatchback which featured a rear-wheel drive layout. This version of the Skyhawk was powered with a 3.8L V6 engine mated to either a manual (a four- or a five-speed) or an automatic (a three-speed) transmission. The second generation entered the market in 1981 – it was offered to customers as a two-door coupe, three-door hatchback, four-door sedan and station wagon. The range of motors included options from a 1.8L OHV L46 I4 to a 2.0L SOHC LT3 I4. The gearbox underwent no changes. The production run of the Buick Skyhawk ended in 1989.
