The Buick Riviera was the very first model that was used by GM in order to introduce their unique model line of personal luxury vehicles to the U.S. automotive market. The Riviera became extremely popular, since the time this model was originally launched (early 60s), there was an extremely strong influence of the French fashion in the United States.
