The production of the Audi A4 was initiated in 1994. The model came to replace the 80 line as the company’s compact offering. On the North American market, the car appeared as the 1996 model. An all-new model that was sharing only few mechanicals with the predecessor, the A4 was still available in both, a 4-door sedan and 5-door station wagon (Avante) body styles. Featuring a wide range of powertrain options that included up to nine engines and four gearboxes on certain markets, the A4 could also be equipped with Audi’s branded 4WD quattro system. After being facelifted in 1997, the first-generation A4 was replaced with the second representative of the line. Later on, the model was revised three more times, with the freshest version released in June 2015.
