Duraglide performance engine bearings are ACL’s original TriMetal bearings (Copper, Lead, Tin) that are made in Australia. They are somewhat different from the classic ACL Race Series bearings (metallurgical formulation) and offer all the advantages associated with TriMetal metallurgy. Duraglide bearings are built specifically for Ford, GM, and Chrysler V-8 engines, including Hemi engines. They consist of four distinct layers, such as tin over the plate, nickel dam, copper lead intermediate layer, and steel back. The tin over the plate is 100% tin and thicknesses are nominally .007’. The nickel intermediate layer (barrier plate or dam) prevents tin migration from the cover plate. Further, the manufacturer uses a mild-steel strip onto which is added powdered copper lead metal alloy. The strip is heated and compressed to bond the alloy to the steel backing.

ACL performance engine bearings also feature improved eccentricity to compensate for bore distortion at high-speed operation and assist in the formation of the hydrodynamic oil film. When it comes to ACL bearings' appearance, they feature a dark tarnished coloration, which can vary from dark black/ blue/brown colors. This color is the result of the electroplating which is the last production process. The electroplated overlay has copper as one part of its composition, which tarnishes to the dark colors mentioned above. This tarnish coloration has the negligible thickness, so once installed in the engine, the crankshaft journal contacting the bearing, will polish the bearing surface, peeling of the surface color and leaving the bearings with a polished silver appearance.
