What’s New for the Chevrolet Silverado?

The half-ton 1500 enters 2024 largely unchanged. The same cannot be said for Silverado HD models: they got lots of upgrades inside and out and an off-road-ready version, namely the ZR2.

• Exterior. All trims received a reworked front bumper, redesigned grille, and C-shaped LED lighting elements. Steeping up to the LTZ or High Country brings dual-projector headlights that perform animated sequences when approaching or walking away from a truck. The latter model is now available with the Midnight Edition package that brings blacked-out exterior accents. Chevrolet also gave the Silverado new wheel options.
• Interior. The LT and higher trims boast a new dashboard design, a revised center console, a 13.5-inch touchscreen, and a 12.3-inch digital gauge display. All models got advanced driver-assistance features to make towing even safer and more convenient.
• Powertrain. A standard gasoline 6.6-liter V8 engine is now mated to an Allison automatic transmission with ten speeds. The models powered by this mill saw an increase in their GCWR (Gross Combined Weight Rating) to 26,000 pounds. A Duramax diesel 6.6-liter V8 engine now offers 470 horsepower and 975 lb-ft of twist. The automaker upgraded a turbocharger, combustion system, and control architecture to make that possible.

But the big news for 2024 is probably the addition of an all-electric version to the lineup. The Silverado EV uses “a battery electric platform shared with the GMC Hummer EV, instead of using the existing Silverado platform.” It is said to be equipped with two electric motors (one driving each axle) making a combined 664 horsepower. The Silverado EV will be capable of pulling up to 10,000 pounds and carrying up to 1,300 pounds in its bed. The driving range is 400 miles per charge.
