Capable of producing 277 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of twist, a 3.0-liter turbodiesel is well-suited for towing. Thus powered and equipped with a tow package, the Silverado can pull up to 13,300 pounds. V8 engine options include 355-hp 5.3-liter and 420-hp 6.2-liter units.

Like its smaller brother, the Colorado ZR2, the newly-introduced Silverado 1500 ZR2 has a range of beefed-up parts and other enhancements that give it a respectable amount of off-road ability. It is far from being an equivalent of the hardcore and super-powerful Ford F-150 Raptor or Ram 1500 TRX, but the ZR2 is intended for a different kind of customer. Those who need a vehicle that would be plenty capable on demanding terrain, yet without featuring extreme (and overly expensive) equipment will likely be content with it. The Silverado ZR2 is motivated by the top-of-the-line 6.2-liter V8 and rides on 33-inch tires. The suspension has been enhanced with spool-valve shocks and specifically tuned springs ensuring greater wheel travel. Front and rear e-lockers are also part of the package. Among the ZR2’s off-road accessories, there are specific skid plates and red tow hooks. Up front, there is a steel bumper that improves an approach angle.
